BERAKAS, BRUNEI-MUARA

Tanah Jambu FT (TJ FT) preserved their unbeaten start in Group D of the DST National Veteran Football League President Cup after overturning a two-goal deficit in an enthralling 2-2 draw against the Belait District Football Association (PBDB) at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.

Tanah Jambu's goalkeeper Abdul Samad Abdul Rahman was nearly left embarrassed in a gaffe after missing a routine clearance but despite best interests of PBDB's pair Pengiran Yunos Pengiran Damit and Musrapi Haji Tuah last-gasp defending helped address moment of uncertainty at the back.

Abdul Samad's woes continued after conceding a penalty for shoving Musrapi in full flight from behind.

Jamhari Lani dispatched the penalty for his third league goal of the campaign to give the Belait outfit a slender advantage.

The visitors' doubled the advantage after TJ's player Sahfrin Mohd Noor put in to his own net even though Sifiga Kassim claimed to have taken the final touch.

However, Tanah Jambu pulled one back after Haji Rudy Yahya, who has proven to be a constant menace, converted from captain Keflee Haji Sulaiman's delicious cross.

The hosts should have levelled the tie after PBDB goalkeeper spilled Keflee's snapshot but goal-scorer Haji Rudy fluffed his lines with an open goal at his mercy.

The away side spurned a golden opportunity to restore a two-goal cushion after ballooning a shot wide with the goal gaping.

Tanah Jambu showed signs of recovery after captain Keflee curled a free kick but was comfortably dealt with by PBDB shot-stopper Lihan Haji Ali.

PBDB substitute Mohd Shah Ibrahim being sent clean through but slipped in the crucial moment as Abd Samad who has been showing signs of vulnerability recovered.

In a twist of fortunes, it was a goalkeeping error from Lihan Haji Ali who dropped a danger from a corner allowing Abu Bakar Haji Md Yassin to deliver a cross back into the box which Keflee instinctively headed into the back of the net three minutes from time.

Tanah Jambu could seal qualification to the next round if they successfully negotiate a league tie against Brunei Shell Recreation Club (BSRC) who face danger of elimination with defeat.

PBDB complete their group stage against basement dwellers Terazza FC needing a win to stand any hopes of qualifying to the second round.
