BNRSC Advised Road Users to be More Careful, Alert on New Highway

 July 30th, 2016  |  05:43 AM  |   1014 views

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The Brunei National Road Safety Council (BNRSC) has advised drivers to be more careful and alert as the number of accidents occurring at the Telisai-Lumut Highway have been on the rise, which included one fatality. Also other car accidents happening in other areas of Brunei Darussalam are on the rise.

BNRSC's research has shown that there are a number of drivers driving over the speed limit, up to 150km/h. BNRSC is advising to the public to follow the speed limit of 70km/ hr for rainy season. According to statistics, 20 accidents have occurred up to July 26, 12 of which occurred during heavy rain.

In addition to speeding, the condition of the vehicle must also be considered, especially the condition of their tyres and the public are discouraged to modify their vehicles. Other factor contributing to car accidents is slippery roads. Hence, precaution is needed at all times because accidents can happen everywhere, not just at the Telisai-Lumut Highway.

To ensure road safety, drivers need to have good ethics,be more cautious and also to pray before their journey. Furthermore, the public are advised to not take any risks especially at U-turns.

The BNRSC has conducted technical inspections on areas affected by potholes or slippery roads and efforts have been taken to improve the road conditions. BNRSC, with the help of various agencies, will be conducting inspections at the Telisai-Lumut Highway, along with other roads. Other steps to ensure road safety include setting up a 'speed camera' and road signs, with safety precautions.
