The Women's Business Council (WBC) of Brunei Darussalam yesterday organised the 2016 Women Entrepreneurs Day, which coincided with its Hari Raya celebrations.

Held at The Rizqun International Hotel, the event was attended by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Datin Paduka Dr. Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil as guest of honour.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the WBC Excellent Entrepreneur Award 2015 to four recipients, namely, Datin Paduka Hajah Rokiah Haji Zakiah, the Executive Director of Rokiah Consultants and Services, who is also President of Women's Business Council of Brunei Darussalam; Dayang Hajah Siti Khadijah Sheikh Haji Ibrahim, Managing Director of SHF Florist; Dayang Faridah binti Haji Mohd Taufik, the Manager of Miraputra D'Lightz; and Nellie DPH Sunny, the Executive Director of iCipta Trading and Management Services.

Women Entrepreneurs Daywas launched on August 30, 2014 in conjunction with the 14th anniversary of WBC.

The Women's Business Council of Brunei Darussalam was launched on June 20, 2000 during the closing ceremony of the APEC Women Leaders Conference SME as Global Traders' hosted by the Women's Business Council of Brunei Darussalam at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.

WBC is a national body of women in business, academia, government and civil society, which aims to represent women's business interests and concerns; create an avenue for the exchange of ideas; and develop skills, entrepreneurship and support for quality business for women and among women.

WBC has become an active body nationally, regionally and internationally. It is the National Focal Point for APEC Women and the Economy Forum and the Asean Women Entrepreneurs Network.

WBC members have also received the 'Outstanding Asean Women Entrepreneur Award' instituted by Asean Women's Entrepreneur Network.

WBC President Datin Paduka Hajah Rokiah binti Haji Zakiah in her welcoming speech said, "Women Entrepreneurs Day is celebrated on June 20 each year and this year is its 16th year. The special clay is to celebrate all the hard work of women entrepreneurs in variousbusiness fields."

This year, four WBC members were awarded the Asean Outstanding Women Entrepreneur Award 2015'.The event also saw competitions and lucky draws.
