BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Building up the nation's ICT industry has been a core component in realising Brunei Vision 2035.

In order to meet this call, Google Developers Group (GDG) Brunei has taken the initiative to roll out activities for Bruneian youths to partake in the effort of building human capital in the ICT sector, as well as to promote Google-based technologies in the country.

Towards this objective, GDG Brunei recently organised an '1016 Extended Redux' event at DARe (Darussalam Enterprise), iCentre.

It revolved around talks given by the GDG Brunei Founder and Lead, Awang Haji Azaman bin Haji Suleiman as well as two GDG Brunei members from Politeknik Brunei and Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Sultan Saiful Rijal Technical College (MTSSR) Campus students - Awang Muhammad Faiz Izharuddin bin Haji Dumin and Awang Mohammad Kadir bin Zaini - who presented the more technical details.

Among others, the talks focused on building awareness of ICT and how vital it is, as well as the online Google Cloud Database platform - Google's Firebase.

There was also a live Google Hangout with an Indonesian-based developer and GDG Surabaya organiser, Steven Djojokusumo, who elaborated on the latest Google Progressive Web Applications and Firebase to the attendees.

Goodies and free T-shirts were given out to the audience, made up of local developers as well as students from various technical institutions, universities and start-ups in Brunei.

As part of the GDG Brunei programme, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) student May Goh Poh Ylk also won a prize for completing the 'Study Jam' task.

Haji Azaman is keen to get more people involved in GDG Brunei through its meet-up sessions held from 2.30pm to 5pm every last Saturday of the month at the iCentre.

GDG Brunei was formed in 2010 with the aim of building a platform that would advocate awareness and interests in using Google technologies and mobile Android developments in the country.
