PETALING JAYA

Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic) has clocked in at Perdana Putra in Putrajaya on Monday (Aug 23) for his first day of work as the Prime Minister.

He arrived at the main block of Perdana Putra - which houses the Prime Minister’s Office - at about 8.25 am.

Bernama reported that Ismail Sabri was greeted by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali and Senior Deputy Secretary-General of the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Jamil Rakon.

Also present were Public Service director-general Tan Sri Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman, Attorney General Tan Sri Idrus Harun, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani and Malaysian Armed Forces Chief General Tan Sri Affendi Buang.

Ismail Sabri, who was in a black suit, then clocked in at his office on Level 5 of the Perdana Putra building, and this was followed by the reading of prayers led by Prime Minister’s Department integrity officer Muhd Redza Ahmad before he signed the Welcome Book.

He is scheduled to make his first official visit as the Prime Minister on Monday to the Merbok and Kuala Muda districts of Kedah, which have both been declared Level One disaster areas due to flash floods.

Ismail Sabri is expected to visit several flood-hit areas and meet with families affected by the disaster.

According to the itinerary for the visit that was shared with the media on Sunday (Aug 22), he will be visiting several disaster areas on Monday including the Tupah Bridge, Taman Lembah Merbok and the Tupah water plant.

He is expected to spend a day in Kedah before heading back to Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 4pm.

This comes after his maiden speech as the Prime Minister on Sunday in which he asked for everyone to work as one “Malaysian Family” to join in the recovery of the nation and fight the Covid-19 pandemic together.

Ismail Sabri was sworn in as Malaysia's ninth Prime Minister last Saturday (Aug 21) before Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara.
