The Brunei Darussalam Vietnam Business Forum took place yesterday, bringing together government officials and members of the business community from both countries.
Held at The Empire Hotel & Country Club, the event was jointly organised by the Energy and Industry Department at the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The forum was held with the objectives of exchanging information on the investment climate and opportunities for cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and Vietnam; exploring potential business cooperation between investors and companies in the relevant sectors; promoting Bruneian investment opportunities to Vietnamese companies; and engaging Bruneian companies for business matching with Vietnamese companies to achieve valuable partnerships.
The event saw the attendance of Tran Dai Quang, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
The president delivered a keynote address, in which he said, "This forum offers a good chance for us to discuss investment opportunities and promote cooperation and business connectivity between Vietnamese andBruneian enterprises in order to further advance trade and investment between our two countries in the coming time."
The proceedings also saw welcoming remarks delivered by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II.
"Brunei Darussalam and Vietnam are both in the midst of pursuing our economic visions through the Vision 2035, as well as 'Doi Moi' policy, respectively," he said. "Based on the complementarity of our shared objectives and aspirations for achieving greater national progress, this therefore provides great potential for deeper economic and commercial engagement between both countries.
"In addition, through our close cooperation in Asean and APEC, we also share similar values and principles as developing economies," he continued. "And we have great respect for how much Vietnam has achieved at the regional and international level under its foreign trade policy, particularly its ambitious trade agreements with various economies, such as Russia and the European Union."
In the context of bilateral relations, he noted that Brunei and Vietnam are both members of the Trans Pacific
Partnership, involving 12 economies, and working together on the much broader Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership of 16 countries.
"Our national visions and our foreign trade policy initiatives offer great prospects for the business community," he added.
The forum featured two presentations, one of which was delivered by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar, Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister's Office, entitled, 'Invest in Brunei Darussalam'.
Another presentation came in the form of a speech delivered by Tran Tuan Anh, Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade, on investing in Vietnam.
The event also featured a question-and-answer session, which saw forum participants from both countries given the opportunity to put forward their queries, with officials from both Brunei and Vietnam on hand to respond.
Participants of the forum included members of the Brunei business community, as well as company representatives who are part of a business delegation from Vietnam.
After the forum, the participants took part in a business-matching session.
