The senior personnel of Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), Senior Manager of Merchant Banking Awang Abdul Azim bin Haji Mohammad and Co-Deputy Treasurer James Chua Pheng Kyan recently attended the extensive five-day Cambridge Islamic Finance Leadership Programme (IFLP) 2016 at Clare College, University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
The programme was organised to prepare the next generation of outstanding leaders in Islamic banking and finance by providing them with unique mentoring opportunities, rigorous leadership training from renowned leaders and also provide industry specific perspective via case studies, said a press release.
The programme was structured in such a way that it gave the delegates direct access to well-established global leaders and management gurus in Islamic banking and finance.
Abdul Azim bin Haji Mohammad also bagged the Cambridge Islamic Finance Leadership Award after being placed among the top five most outstanding attendees, on top of his Cambridge Certificate in Islamic Banking and Finance Leadership, showcasing Brunei's proficiency in Islamic finance as among the world's leaders.
BIBD's attendance at the event was in line with its mission and strategy to create world-class professionals that would support Brunei's long-term development plan, Brunei Vision 2035, to become a nation widely recognised for the accomplishments of its well-educated and highly skilled people.
The programme also consisted of a series of discussions and interviews with several CEOs and experts, which included Dato Paduka Iqbal Ahmad Khan, BIBD Board Director member and CEO of Fajr Capital, who also delivered a keynote speech at the event. The 2016 IFLP attracted participants from the UK, the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, Europe and the USA. More than 50 mentors, speakers and delegates took part in the global leadership programme, specifically structured for the middle and upper-middle management personnel of Islamic financial institutions.
