Kampong Bang Nukat Hosted Eco Village Cuisine Project

The Eco Village Cuisine 2016 project was held recently in Kampong Bang Nukat, Lamunin to mark the current fruits season.

 

Among the highlights of the event were a cooking recipe competition titled 'Edible Flowers' and the launching of the iCookAsia website.

 

Present as guest of honour was Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Tourism) at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT).

 

During the cooking demonstration, five chefs prepared different dishes from their own recipes. Chef Dr Shahrim from Malaysia, who uses herbs and flowers to cook, prepared `Nasi Kerabu Nyonya; Chef Rezal from Rizqun Internatiorial Hotel, assisted by Chef Shahrul prepared Kueh Keria and Pengat Ubi Kayu; Chef Seri, assisted by Chef Syokrin, prepared their Rambutan tart and Durian puff; while Ahmad Husaini bin Hassan, General Manager of RBC Sdn Bhd prepared his Kerabu Jantung Pisang and Pucuk Paku with coconut juice.

 

Ella Amin was announced as the winner of the Salad and Soup category of the cooking competition while Datin Hajah Shireen emerged as the winner for both the Main Course and Appetiser, Jam and Drinks category.

 

The event was organised by Astera Consultant and Eco Ponies Garden. The winners will be posted on the website and published in a cookbook titled 'Cooking with Fruits & Flowers' by Astera Consultant scheduled to be published in September next year.

 

Siti Kaprawi of Astera Consultant along with founder of Hip & Healthy, Anna Aziz of The Energy Kitchen, explained that the concept of outdoor cooking for the competition is compatible with the village atmosphere in addition to promoting the setting of a healthy lifestyle among residents in the country by selecting and using ingredients from a variety of fruits and flowers as one of the dishes on the menu.

 

It also sought to encourage communities across the nation to adopt a healthier diet as well as to support the nation in its diversification efforts to boost the economy.
