`Conversations on Tourism and Economic Development' Discuss Ideas to Promote Tourism

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Tourism stakeholders yesterday shared ideas on developing tourist attractions and nature 'gems' in Brunei to promote the tourism industry locally, regionally and internationally.

These were some of the topics discussed at a session hosted by the United States Embassy in Brunei Darussalam at Kampong Bakut Berumput, Kampong Ayer, Bandar Seri Begawan yesterday.

The session entitled `Conversations on Tourism and Economic Development' featured Anthony Chieng, Managing Director of Sunshine Borneo Tours & Travel Sdn Bhd, who recently participated in a three-week International Visitor Leadership Programme (IVLP) titled 'Tourism and Economic Development in the United States'.

Anthony raised the idea of developing a more cohesive partnership between the public and private sectors in promoting Brunei's tourism industry.

The session was attended by representatives from the Tourism Development Department and the private sector that included small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the tourism industry.

Some of the participants suggested the use of social media to promote Brunei's tourism potentials. For example, the industry needs to set up a more viable way for tourists to find suitable B&B and tourist attractions in the country.

The participants also proposed seminars on developing marketing ideas.
