Labour Dept Hosted JITPA Roadshow in Temburong

The Department of Labour held a roadshow on Wednesday at Bangar, Temburong, regarding the new policies on the payment of deposit money for the recruitment of foreign workers.

 

Present to conduct the briefing was Haji Rani bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Yusof, the Acting Commissioner of Labour.

 

Also in attendance was the Acting Deputy Commissioner of Labour (Corporate), as well as the acting general manager, acting deputy general manager and senior officials of the Takaful Brunei Am Sdn Bhd (TBA).

 

During the briefing session, Haji Rani explained that under the new regulations, employers may use the Takaful/ Insurance Guarantee for Foreign Workers (JITPA) for the payment of deposits on foreign workers, in addition to using cash and bank guarantees.

 

JITPA is a method of paying deposits, which was only recently introduced in Brunei, and the rate of deposits for the recruitment of foreign workers has also been reduced to a more affordable price.

Meanwhile, private companies were advised to contact registered Takaful operators, to find out more about insurance guarantees for foreign workers.

 

There was also a briefing on deposits for the recruitment of foreign workers by Asiah binti Ibrahim, a Finance Officer at the Department of Labour, which was then followed by a briefing on the topic of JITPA from TBA.

 

The roadshow ended with a question-and-answer session for both employers and workers.

 

The new changes in the payment of deposit money took effect yesterday, and for those wishing to reclaim their security deposits due to the reduction in rates, the application for refunds Will open on January 9, 2017.

 

Similar roadshows were held in in the Tutong, Belait and Brunei-Muara districts.
