Brunei DST Premier League leaders Al Idrus Junior. FT and Menglait FC will be fighting for the second tier title in their last clashes this season in what has been one of the tightest races in years.
Both Lun Bawang and Kota Ranger won at a canter in the past two seasons but the emergence of newly promoted Al Idrus Junior and Menglait FC have added a competitive element in the league.
Menglait FC sealed promotion to the top flight for the first time in their 34-year history in May after Setia Perdana's 3-O win over IKLS ensured they could not be caught.
Panchor Murai FC, who entered a second season, were expected to mount a serious promotion tilt after narrowly missing out by two points but a sluggish start curtailed their chances.
Setia Perdana head coach Haji Lalim bin Haji Piut told the Bulletin back in March that Al Idrus Junior were serious contenders for promotion.
The newly established side has also made attacking reinforcements with the acquisition of former QAF striker Adie Arsham Muhd Sale whose goals has helped his side to the brink of the title.
Al Idrus need to win against IKLS FC in their re-scheduled match though the title could be decided before a ball is kicked if Menglait FC fail to beat Setia Perdana.
The Menglait-based club have an inferior goal difference to the incumbent league leaders and a draw will not be enough even if Al Idrus suffer their first defeat of the season who are due to play a week later.
Menglait must win against Setia Perdana this Sunday to pile the pressure on the league leaders and would go top if they do two points clear off a side that have spent numerous weeks at the pinnacle of the Brunei DST Premier League.
Nevertheless, Menglait were given a glimmer of hope to overtake Al Idrus after the BSRC draw left the door ajar though the newcomers face an inconsistent 1KLS side who cannot finish in the top five this year.
If Menglait overcome Setia Perdana, the title will be decided on deadline day and the players would be eagerly waiting in anticipation as their rivals' slug it out for a fairy-tale finish.
Meanwhile, Tabuan Under-17 can secure third spot with a win over lacklustre Kilanas FC in their final match.
