A bank teller convicted of misappropriating $54,000 from his employer was sentenced by the Intermediate Court yesterday to 12 months' jail.

Muhamad Yusmin Hatta bin Md Yusop, 31, worked at the bank's branch in Sumbangsih Bahagia when he pocketed a total of $54,901.75 from the bank between March and July 2010. He no longer works for the bank.

Judge Haji Abdullah Soefri bin Pehin Dato Haji Abidin found DPP Farhanah binti Pehin Dato Haji Suhaili had proven the case beyond reasonable doubt.

The judge also said the defendant had taken advantage of the bank's systems with his internal knowledge.

The Commercial Crime Investigation Unit Police investigated the case.
