Brazilian football giants Corinthians have sacked coach Cristovao Borges after a poor run of results, the Sao Paulo club said on Saturday.
The 57-year-old was dismissed after Corinthians' 2-0 home loss to Brazilian Serie A leaders Palmeiras, a result that left last year's champions fifth in the league standings.
"Cristovao is a hard worker and a very dedicated person but in football you need results," Corinthians president Roberto de Andrade said.
Fabio Carille, who worked as an assistant under Cristovao, will assume the head coaching role on an interim basis, Andrade said.
Cristovao led Corinthians to seven wins, six defeats and five draws after replacing Tite, who resigned to take charge of Brazil's national team in June.
