Toll Money Collector Get 3 Months in Jail

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The Intermediate Court handed a three months' jail sentence to a Rasau Toll money collector for pocketing daily proceeds from levy.

Tapak @ Zamil bin Tingkah, a Grade 1 Tradesman at the Public Works Department, was convicted on his own guilty plea to a charge of criminal breach of trust.

The Commercial Crime Police investigations showed that the defendant committed criminal breach of trust by pocketing toll money whilst posted at the Rasau booth in Kuala Belait between August 29 and September 14, 2014, totalling $12,300 from daily collections.

The defendant's task had been to collect $3 from each driver's entrance and issue a coupon for each transaction.

The defendant was supposed to hand over the collected money to the Revenue Unit at the Public Works Department, but instead he brought each day's takings home for personal use.

The felony was discovered by the defendant's superior on September 14, 2014.

DPP Yvonne Lim produced the case before Judge Ramzidah binti PDKD Col (Rtd) Haji Abdul Rahman.
