​Brunei Darussalam and the Federal Republic of Germany enjoy excellent relations over the past few decades. Both countries share similar views on the value of multilateralism and on the importance of free trade. This was explained by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the country during a reception in conjunction with the 'Day of German Unity'.

Representing His Majesty's government at the reception was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism. Her Excellency Gerda Winkler in her speech also said  that one of the major projects is the fertiliser production facility which is one of the largest fertiliser plants in Southeast Asia and at the same time support the country's economic diversification efforts. The reception took place last night in Gadong.
