YSHHB Present Donations to Fire Victims

 October 8th, 2016  |  06:06 AM  |   403 views

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

A donation ceremony was held at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) yesterday for the victims of a recent house fire and two local non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

A financial contribution of $3,450 was presented to Bolariffin bin Abdul Ghani @ Bolghanikan and his nine family members, whose house in Kampong Lurong Dalam was completely destroyed in a fire on October 5.

Bolariffin said that the blaze occurred in his children's room at around 9am, when he was taking a shower. "My neighbour started screaming when the fire broke out," he said. At first, I didn't hear the screams, due to the water pressure in the shower.

"I only managed to rescue some important documents. A week ago, a small fire actually occurred inside our kitchen. Now, I am staying with my relatives in Kampong Saba Darat 'B', which is also in Kampong Ayer. I have rejected an offer by the government to have us stay in a temporary shelter at Kampong Belimbing, as it would be inconvenient for my children to attend their school in Kampong Ayer."

Meanwhile, the Brunei Darussalam Association of Writers (Asterawani) received some financial sponsorship from Yayasan, for the hosting of the 6th Brunei Writers' Congress (PSB) by the Language and Literature Bureau.

This year's congress will be held in November under the banner of 'The Splendour of Arts in the Era of His Majesty's Reign', which focuses on the development of local literature and authors during the reign of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang DiPertuan of Brunei Darussalam, from 1968 to the present day.

PSB is intended to provide a platform for Brunei writers to meet, interact and exchange views on current issues in the fields of language, culture and literature, as well as boosting cooperation between fellow writers.

The financial contribution was received by Associate Professor Ampuan Dr Haji Brahim bin Ampuan Haji Tengah, the Head of Asterawani.

Yayasan also provided financial assistance to the Women Graduates Association of Brunei Darussalam (PSW), to fund part of the expenses for a regional Women's Conference in mid-October, headlined, 'The Qualities of An Exemplary Muslim Ummah For Excellence'.

The conference is aimed at enhancing the participants' knowledge of the characteristics and attributes of a true Muslim, and will feature guest speakers from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam.

The contribution was received by Pengiran Hajah Zabaidah binti Pengiran Haji Kamaluddin, the President of PSW.

The contributions were all presented by Haji Brahim bin Haji Ismail, the Managing Director of Yayasan.
