Dr Chin Wei Keh, the Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), and a governing board member of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) Regional Centre for Lifelong Learning (SEAMEO CELLL), recently attended an expert meeting headlined 'Towards an Asean Lifelong Learning Agenda', in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on October 4-5.
Dr Chin was accompanied to the meeting by two IBTE officers, Hajah Norhakimah binti Haji Mohd Nor and Siti. Mulsinah binti Matussin.
The two-day meeting, which is funded by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), involved a series of parallel session discussions on lifelong learning recommendations and strategic actions, together with plans put forward by SEAMEO CELLL for a regional online portal on knowledge sharing and learning.
During the meeting, each country presented its respective findings, and Hajah Norhakimah represented Brunei Darussalam as its focal point expert.
Prior to the meeting, the IBTE in collaboration with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education (SHBIE) and Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), had already conducted a national workshop with government and non-government agencies on `Documenting Successful Policies and Practices For Lifelong Learning', in which a national report was prepared, giving an overview of lifelong learning in Brunei Darussalam in three areas: teachers and facilitators, various sectors and community-based centre.
Also present at the meeting were the project's stakeholders, along with the members of the SEAMEO CELLL Governing Board and focal point experts from all Asean member countries, including Timor-Leste.
