Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak looks forward to autonomy over healthcare and education as enshrined in Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) returned to Sarawak.
This is so that the state government could expedite the upgrading of healthcare and education facilities, said its secretary Alan Ling, noting that Sarawak and Sabah have to wait for a long time for approval of funds from Putrajaya for upgrades and infrastructure development.
With better hospital and clinic facilities and equipment, more lives could be saved, he added.
“Devolution of power under MA63 to the state government for healthcare system can save more lives and address dilapidated schools issue expeditiously as the people have suffered too long,” he said.
Alan was responding to the visit by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to the state to specifically address outstanding issues under MA63 at a meeting in Kuching yesterday.
Meanwhile, he looks forward to more funds from the unity government for building clinics, hospitals upgrading and purchasing better equipment, as Anwar has set his sights on weeding out wastages and leakages of funds in the administration.
Anwar has ordered his cabinet members to go through the 2021 Auditor-General’s Report with their respective ministries and act on its recommendations.
Alan believes that the findings will be tabled in Parliament and addressed by the respective ministers.
Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Sarawak chief and Miri MP Chiew Choon Ming concurs, saying less leakages and corruption ultimately result in more funds that will be available to meet development and social needs in the state.
