ISLAMABAD

A Pakistani minister has said that export-led growth is the cure for Pakistan's economic woes, recommending the government declare an export emergency.

Pakistani Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal made the remarks on Friday during a meeting with representatives from steel, pharmaceutical and textile sectors, who apprised the minister of problems in doing business and exporting indigenous products abroad.

He assured the business community representatives of the full-fledged government support, saying that "we will provide all-out support to the industrial sector for resolution of their issues."

The minister also asserted that the business community should pay close attention to any red-tapism or other bottlenecks in undertaking any venture. "We will cut red tape," he added.

He said the government is pursuing a business-friendly policy and promoting a conducive environment for entrepreneurs.
