'Avoid Getting Into Debt'

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Islam teaches its ummah how to manage income and expenses correctly, which is to be modest and avoid getting into debt. However, there is no doubt that there are also a few people who are in debt and cannot pay their debts due to insufficient financial resources.

This was among the contents of yesterday Friday Sermon titled 'Avoid Getting Into Debt'.

Although Islam does not forbid its ummah getting into debt but it is not encouraged. Islam advises its ummah to avoid the practice in getting into debt. If we have to get into debt, then there is intention and determination to repay the debt, which is obligatory. It is also obligatory to inform the heirs so that the debt could be repaid should the debtor pass away.  Unlawful, if the debtor fails to repair it. The sin of debt will not be forgiven by Allah as long as the debt is not cleared.
