Water Finally Flowing For Villages

 April 11th, 2016  |  09:25 AM  |   2747 views

KOTA KINABALU, MALAYSIA

After enduring several months of hardship, more than 300 families in Ranau, Kota Belud and Tuaran can now enjoy uninterrupted water supply.

This was made possible by Mercy Malaysia and the Sime Darby Foundation in bringing gravity water pipes and tanks to the affected villages.

The villagers have been facing serious water problems shortly after the June 5 earthquake last year.

The pipes and tanks have already been installed and are ready for use in Kg Mesilau in Ranau, Kg Kiau Bersatu and Kg Kiau Nuluh in Kota Belud, as well as Kg Tomis Jaya and Kg Tiong Ratau in Tuaran.

Mercy Malaysia vice-president Datuk Dr Heng Aik Cheng said the villagers helped to install the pipes and tanks which obtained its supply from rivers and natural resources.

“The foundation has allocated RM143,000 to purchase the necessary equipment.

“Apart from that, a total of 11 temporary shelters made of zinc and plywood were built for villagers whose houses were destroyed,” he said.

The foundation’s chief executive officer Yatela Zainal Abidin said there was still much to be done to help rebuild the lives of those affected.

“It is really sad and depressing to see all this damage especially in Mesilau area where a section of what used to be a road and bridge linking villages to the nature resort is now ruined.

“We are glad to be able to assist in a small way,” she added.
