A man has been given a jail sentence after he tagged himself on pictures taken at a riot.

Robert Darragh, from Belfast, tagged himself on two pictures taken in the city in July last year.

Fairly soon after, he got a knock on the door from police who wanted to speak to him about his involvement.

The riots flared up when a loyalist flute band tried to get through a nationalist area.

In the ensuing trouble, 29 police officers were injured including one who almost lost an ear.

Darragh was seen on CCTV throwing missiles retrieved form a wheelie bin at police over an hour and a half period.

During the riot, prosecutor Simon Jenkins said that he had covered his face. But it was a picture taken before trouble flared that identified him as one of the trouble makers.

He tagged himself in that picture plus one other during the riots, according to Belfast Live.

Darragh denied being a sectarian and his lawyer said he had ‘allowed himself to get caught up with a group of people he knew’.
