HÀ NỘI

President Trần Đại Quang has urged Hà Nội to train its regular and elite forces toward a robust, modern fighting capacity.

Speaking at a ceremony held yesterday in Hà Nội to mark the 70th anniversary of Hà Nội’s armed forces, the president praised the outstanding efforts and achievements that the forces have made to the national defence.

On the occasion, the Hà Nội armed forces received the Military Exploit Order, first class.

President Quang said that current complicated global challenges place a huge duty on our forces to protect national independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

He called it a top priority for the municipal military power to ensure safety for the city as well as the whole nation.

"Hà Nội is the country’s administrative and political centre, and a hub for culture, education, science-technology, economics, and international trade. Therefore, it is imperative for the city’s armed forces to guarantee safety for Party and State organisations," the President said.

The President requested the armed forces to work with police to ensure social order and safety, and diplomatic activities while holding exercises to prevent disturbances and terrorism.

He asked the capital city armed forces to give proactive and timely national security advice to the city’s People’s Committee, the city Party Committee, the Ministry of National Defence.

The forces should be active in detecting plots and sabotage activities of hostile forces that are threatening the national security and socio-economic development, said the President.

Established on October 19, 1946, the Hà Nội armed forces made significant contributions to wars against France and the US, especially the “Hà Nội -Điện Biên Phủ in the air” victory in 1972.

After the country’s reunification in 1975, the forces have strengthened cooperation with relevant forces to defeat the plots of hostile forces and joined efforts to develop the society and the economy.— VNS
