A twenty four year old local 'con artist' was ordered remanded by the Magistrate's Court yesterday to wait for the statement of facts on November 1 before sentencing as he has pleaded guilty to seven charges of cheating people into hiring their cars.
Mohammad Hafiz Syafiq bin Md Amir duped seven people by posing to be interested in hiring their cars for amounts ranging from $30 to $120 per day.
The defendant met the victims at a rendezvous or at their homes, in Brunei-Muara and Tutong districts in September and October, 2016.
The seven charges preferred by DPP Yvonne Lim each carry a maximum imprisonment of seven years and a fine. Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid presided over the case.
