Local Pleaded Guilty To Theft Charges

 October 25th, 2016  |  10:14 AM  |   1157 views

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

A local man was ordered to pay a fine of $1,000, or serve jail for a month in default of payment, after he pleaded guilty to a charge of theft at the Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Thirty-year-old Abu Hamizan bin Mohamad Junidi, a uniformed personnel, said he did not have enough money and decided to steal two Nissan NGK spark plugs that cost just under $30 each, from Sim Kim Huat (SKH) Department Store in Kampong Kiulap on October 22, 2016 at about 8.20pm.

Prosecutor Muhammad Qamarul Affiyian bin Abdul Rahman informed Senior Magistrate Haji Nabil Daraina bin Pehin Dato Ustaz Haji Badaruddin that the defendant went to the store and took four spark plugs but later disposed two of them in the staircase area when he realised he was being followed by a shop assistant.

The shop assistant saw the defendant putting two of the spark plugs into his trouser pocket and exiting the store without paying. The store employee with another colleague gave chase to the defendant and knocked on the defendant's car window, asking for payment.

At first the defendant said he had paid for the items but was unable to show a receipt and was taken to the SKH office. Later the store employees lodged a police report leading to the defendant's arrest.
