​After internalising Islamic studies at a secondary school in the country, a Chinese youth from Sibu, Sarawak chose Islam as his new faith. The conversion ceremony was held on 27th May night, at Kampung Kilanas Mosque.

Alan Chieng Yew Wen is now known as Yussuf bin Abdullah Chieng. In attendance was Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohammad Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Defence who also presented souvenirs.
