BACOLOD CITY
The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) has intensified its anti-criminality campaign by tapping barangay watchmen (tanods) in all 61 barangays here.
Police Col. Noel Aliño, acting Bacolod police director, launched DIAL-B at the BCPO headquarters here on Tuesday, May 30, during a meeting with all the chief tanods here.
Aliño turned over brand-new cellular phones and registered SIM cards to the chief tanods to ascertain the effective implementation of DIAL-B.
Tanods, along with policemen, are recognized as frontliners during incidents, public disorders, and disasters.
Thus, Aliño noted that they play a vital role in keeping the community safe and secure.
DIAL-B is one of the best practices of the BCPO, which establishes an emergency hotline between the chief tanods and directly to Aliño.
It is aimed at ensuring timely conveyance of situation reports, updates, and requests for police assistance via SMS or phone calls 24/7.
It is expected to facilitate immediate police response to calls for service and deter crimes here by strengthening the partnership between the police and barangay officials.
Aliño said they need the help of the tanods, considering that they have ideas about their respective communities, and they also serve as augmentation of the law enforcers in maintaining peace and order.
