A  Malaysian man was ordered by the Magistrate's Court yesterday to settle a $4,500 fine after he pleaded guilty to possession of smuggled alcohol. Henry Chu Sin Lee faces three months jail in default of payment.

Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid ordered for the forfeiture of the smuggled liquor and the return of the defendant's car. The Customs Prosecutor said that the defendant denied having anything to declare for importation when he arrived in his car at the Kuala Lurah Border Control Post at 7.15pm on October 26, 2016.

The customs examiner manning the border insisted on a thorough inspection which led to the discovery of 228 cans of beer and 34 bottles of liquor, which the defendant hid in the rear trunk of the car.
