Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon decided not to suspend classes in the city on Oct. 16, saying the planned transport strike will have minimal effect based on consultations with national and local government agencies.

Biazon held a Facebook live broadcast on Oct. 15 and announced his decision not to suspend classes.

“After our consultation, dialogue with MMDA [Metropolitan Manila Development Authority], kasama na rin po ang national government pag pinag-uusapan ang MMDA dahil iyan po ay regional, our consultation with MTMB, Muntinlupa Traffic Management Bureau, at ang ating sariling Department of Education Division, ang lumabas po na assessment ay hindi necessary na mag-suspend ng klase. Tayo po ay may pasok pa rin tomorrow (After our consultation, dialogue with MMDA, including the national government when you talk about MMDA because that is regional, our consultation with MTMBC, and our own Department of Education Division, the assessment that came out is it is not necessary to suspend classes. We have classes tomorrow),” said Biazon.

The mayor said based on MTMB’s consultation with local transport, the impact of the transport strike will not be widespread. Many local transport groups will not join the strike, he added.

Nevertheless, he said, the city government’s own vehicles will be on standby to assist in case it is needed.

Muntinlupa’s Schools Division Office also agreed with the mayor’s decision after consulting principals.

In addition, he said, suspending classes will mean students will miss a day in class, which can affect their studies especially for those who have exams.
