The Sarawak Chinese Association has been praised for their effort in integrating different cultures through the love for food at the Taste of Borneo 2.0 Carnival.
Mayor Adam Yii said the Taste of Borneo Carnival was not just an event of food as it brought all the races in Sarawak together via culture and food.
“To organise an event of this scale isn’t easy and Sarawak Chinese Association taking the challenge to initiate and sustain this unique and worthy event together with all the 19 other associations deserves praise and applause,” he said when officiating the Taste of Borneo’s Deepavali and Bollywood Nite on Monday at Miri Indoor Stadium.
He added the event brought two worlds together – the traditional and the modern.
After the launching, the event saw an opening act by Yii who sang a rendition of an Indian song, which won a round of applause from the audience.
Also present were Sarawak Chinese Association president Ting Pang Soon, Miri Indian Association president Karambir Singh and the carnival’s organising chairman Leong Soon Kian.
