A Female British national and an Iban woman embraced Islam yesterday in a ceremony that took place at Dakwah Unit's hall in the Belait District.
Danielle Theresa May McNamara, 24, is now known as Nur Dania binti Abdullah McNamara.
In an interview, Nur Dania said before accepting Islam, she had been learning from books on Islam and has many Muslim friends in the UK.
Nur Dania, who works as a nurse at a senior citizen centre in Scotland, converted into a Muslim before planning to get married to a local man, Sufri bin Ramli, 27, who is now also working in Scotland. "After becoming a Muslim, Insya Allah, I will increase my knowledge of Islam, especially learning about Allah the Almighty, His last messenger, and other matters, especially prayers."
A second child in her family with two sisters, she said that her decision to become Muslim has been accepted by her parents and sisters in England. Nur Dania is in the country for some weeks to visit the family of her soon-to-be husband and hopes to learn about the local culture.
An Iban woman also embraced Islam at the ceremony. Flora anak Nisau, 27, chose Ain Syamsidatul Syuhada binti Abdullah Nisau as her Muslim name.
Present at the ceremony were Ustaz Haji Roslan bin Haji Ratu, Head of the Belait's Dakwah Unit, and his assistant, Hajah Salimah binti Haji Hassan.
