A United Kingdom veteran motorcyclist conducting safety courses in Brunei is emphasising safety as the priority for motorcyclists and that riding defensively is the best way to prevent accidents.

Peter Hodgson, UK proprietor of Ideal Driver and Rider Training School of Hull in the UK, has vast experience in the motorcycle training industry and the road safety initiatives in the UK. Hodgson feels he is uniquely placed to offer the benefit of his knowledge and experience to road safety groups and individuals through his Defensive Riding course conducted at Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd.

The Defensive Riding course Hodgson runs equips motorcycle riders with the understanding of defensive riding techniques, the importance and use of rider safety equipment and basic motorcycle maintenance, according to a press release.

According to Hodgson, the number of fatalities on public roads is on the rise in Southeast Asian countries. He had made a lot of friends in the region and it was horrifying for him to see the daily toll on lives that motorcycle riding has in these countries.

Hodgson wanted to reduce this figure of road fatalities in the region, so had conducted the Defensive Riding courses in October and November in Terengganu, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and recently, Brunei with Megamas Training Company.

The bourse was very well received by avid and casual motorcycle riders and uniformed personnel in the country.

During his two-week stay in Brunei Darussalam, Megamas has also supported members of KEMAS (Kelab Maxiscooters Kuala Belait), a riding group based in Kuala Belait, to attend Hodgson's course.
