JAKARTA

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin encouraged the community and all elements of the nation to jointly create a safe and conducive atmosphere amid the election silence period from February 11 to 13, 2024.

"The vice president hopes that election organizers at central and regional levels, including officers of polling stations in the field, can work professionally and in a trustful manner," the vice president's spokesperson Masduki Baidlowi said in a statement from the Vice President's Secretariat here, Sunday.

According to Baidlowi, Amin also encouraged people to visit polling stations to cast their vote.

In addition, the vice president also highlighted the need to have a firm stance ahead of the election day on February 14, 2024.

The spokesperson conveyed that as Indonesia is already in the final stage of the 2024 General Elections, Amin expressed hope that the elections will run not only safely and peacefully but also in a democratic, honest, and fair manner.

"The vice president emphasized that if the elections are held with dignity, people's trust in state administrators will be higher, and it is good for the future of Indonesia's democracy," Baidlowi said.

Amin also asked the community to avoid the spread of fake or provocative news and to respect each other's political choices.

The vice president also expressed hope that the community can carry out their activities as usual in the election silence period while preparing themselves for the election day.

Indonesia will hold the General Elections with around 204.8 million voters expected to participate. The campaigning period for the elections started on November 28, 2023, and ended on February 10, 2024.

During the elections, Indonesians will select their president and vice president as well as members of the House of Representatives (DPR), Regional Representatives Council (DPD), and Regional Legislative Councils (DPRD) at the provincial, city, and district levels.
