The Sixth Brunei Literature Gathering (PSB) has been scheduled for November 29, at the Sarmayuda Hall of the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) in Berakas.

This was announced on Thursday by Hajah Nortijah binti Haji Mohd Hassan, the Acting Director of DBP, during a press conference at the DBP's Pateh Merbai Hall.

Associate Professor Ampuan Dr Haji Brahim bin Ampuan Haji Tengah, the Co-Chairman of the event and the First Chief of the Brunei Darussalam Association of Writers (Asterawani), was also present at the press conference to give overviews of the upcoming event.

Hosted by Asterawani in collaboration with DBP, and supported by the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, this year's PSB event will commemorate the 70th birthday of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang DiPertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

Bearing the theme, `Seamark Sastera Era Kebawah Duli', the event is divided into several sub-themes of Literature and Development of Electronic Media, Literature and Culture, Literature and Education, Literature and Monarchy, Literature and History, Literature and IT and Author and Authorship.

Associate Professor Ampuan Dr Haji Brahim said that the gathering will focus around discussions on the development of literature and local writers during His Majesty's reign from 1968 to the present day.

The event is also aimed at providing a platform for local writers to gather, interact
and exchange ideas on current issues and developments in the fields of Malay Literature, language and culture.
The gathering will be officiated by Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Guthman, the Minister of Religious Affairs, will deliver the keynote paper, which will be followed by six guest speakers from several institutions including DBP, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Asterawani and Tutong District's Language and Literature Bureau, Arts and Cultural Body Section (B2K) .

Public members will also have the opportunity to purchase the poetry anthology `Sambas Daulat Sejambak Kasih 70 Tahun' published by Asterawani where the publication contains the expression and thinking of Asterawani poets dan local writers, which is constituted with education, experience and environment before and during His Majesty's ruling.

The event will also witness the launching of DBP's Puisi Kunang-Kunang Collection produced by SEA Write Awardee, Pengiran Mahmud bin Pengiran Damit, and will conclude with the `Madam Semarak Sastera Era Kebawah Duli' , featuring performances by literary enthusiasts. The event is open to all members of the public and fans of Malay Literature in Brunei and neighbouring states such as Labuan, Sabah and Sarawak.
