​His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam received in audience The Right Honourable Tun Tengku Maimun binti Tuan Mat, The Chief Justice of Malaysia who is in the country from 5th until 8th March 2024.

The Right Honourable Chief Justice of Malaysia is in this country at the invitation of the Supreme Court of Brunei Darussalam, for a reciprocal working visit to Brunei Darussalam and to subsequently attend a courtesy call with The Honourable Chief Justice of Brunei Darussalam and signing of a 'Memorandum of Judicial Cooperation' between the Supreme Court of Brunei Darussalam and the Federal Court of Malaysia. Through the Memorandum, both judicial bodies have a platform to strengthen communication, facilitate joint learning, and encourage cooperation initiatives, especially in the areas of judicial administration, leadership, and court governance.

Accompanying The Right Honourable Chief Justice of Malaysia were the High Court Judge; Chief Registrar of the Federal Court of Malaysia; and Deputy High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam. Also present were The Honourable Dato Seri Paduka Steven Chong Wan Oon, Chief Justice of Brunei Darussalam; the Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Judicial Commissioners of the Supreme Court; and Acting Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court.

The Audience Ceremony took place at Istana Nurul Iman, 7th March afternoon.

During the Audience Ceremony, His Majesty and The Right Honourable Chief Justice of Malaysia discussed plans for judicial cooperation between the two countries, including experience on the use of artificial intelligence, AI.
