As if an abandoned puppy isn't heartbreaking enough, seeing one in a tuxedo is another level of devastating.

Adorable Vincente was all dressed, groomed and ready for his owners to take him away to his new home, but sadly they never showed up. The little puppy was so excited to go to his new home, only for the humans to cancel last minute.

Sharing the heartbreaking photographs on Instagram, Colombian animal charity Fundación Rescátame wrote: "Vincente was left all dressed up and excited, ready for adoption. His supposed adopter never came to pick him up. Just as he was ready for a home, all bathed, they cancelled the adoption."

"And then they ask us how come we're so strict with the adoption process – this is why! Because we don't want to have any doubts that our furry friends will be in excellent hands for life. If you want to adopt, keep in mind that the commitment is for always, animals are not things you can have when you feel like getting a dog."

At the time the heartbreaking post was shared back in 2020, it racked up thousands of likes and comments with hundreds offering to give Vincente a home. The charity added on its Facebook page: "We are happily surprised that Vicente has come this far.

"People have written to us from Italy, Germany, France, Argentina, Peru, and many more Latin American countries to tell us that they saw Vicente and the foundation and want to be part of this story. Thank you! Just like Vicente, we have many furry friends in the foundation who want to find a great family. All the information to help us or adopt is found here."

Thankfully, it didn't take long for the adorable pup to be adopted by a new family. The animal charity posted a video of Vincente being delivered to his forever home. They shared: "We didn't want you to miss it, that's why yesterday we made the official delivery of Vincente to his new family who received him with lots of love.

The rescue centre went on to post an update about how the cute puppy was doing, saying he was very happy with his new owners, who are teaching him "patience and love".

The animal charity added: "While Vicente might have gotten his loving, forever home, there are still 40 other dogs in the rescue who are waiting for their turns. The rescue has helped to rehome more than 200 dogs this year. On their page, they describe themselves as a “non-profit organisation that supports the fight against animal abuse, as well as the rescue, protection and maintenance of animals that are in a state of abandonment"
