Over 600 students of Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Secondary School (SMPDSM) in Mentiri yesterday attended the 'Know Asean Roadshow,' organised by the Information Department through its International Affairs Unit as the Secretariat for the Asean-COCI sub-committee.
Held at the SMPDSM Multipurpose Hall, the roadshow saw Principal Dayangku Hajah Norhasima binti Pengiran Haji Hassan as guest of honour.
Other attendees included officers and staff members of the International Affairs Unit and teachers.
The roadshow opened with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and singing of the national anthem and Asean song.
It then continued with a briefing on Asean by Information Department Special Duties Officer Grade 2, Awang Abdul Karim bin Hamdan, who enlightened students on the history, motto and functions of Asean.
He highlighted the Brunei Vision 2035 in comparison with the nation's statistics within the regional arena, which should be acknowledged by students towards raising awareness on the development of their country, and in boosting their morale towards contributing to their country and motivating them to realise the vision.
Later, the 'Kenali Asean' quiz was held and winners received prizes presented by the guest of honour.
The roadshow looks to expose and disseminate information on Asean on a larger scale, particularly among young students across the country, who plays an important role in catalysing the direction of the nation.
It also aims towards raising awareness and instilling a sense of belonging among students as part of the Asean Community based on its motto - 'One Vision, One Identity, One Community'.
