Penang's Mohd Faiz Subri Nominated For Prestigious 2016 FIFA Puskas Award

ZURICH

Penang's Mohd Faiz Subri has been nominated for the prestigious 2016 FIFA Puskas award, which is given to the best goal scored of the year.

He is nominated along with nine others including football superstars Lionel Messi and Neymar.

In the video uploaded on YouTube by FIFA, Mohd Faiz was described as "the diminutive No13, a prolific goalscorer in the Malaysian Super League, hammered his effort goalwards, struck in a 'knuckleball' manner, producing a swerve so wicked that goalkeeper Mohd Nasril Nourdin stood no chance".

Mohd Faiz scored the wonder goal from a freekick against Pahang in the Super League at the City Stadium on Feb 16.

Video footage of the goal was shared and went viral worldwide.

FIFA says online votes will be accepted until Dec 2, creating a shortlist of three goals.

A second round of voting will be held to decide the winner at FIFA's annual awards ceremony in Zurich on Jan 9.
