A road sign has left drivers utterly baffled as they can't make sense of what it actually means, as the different parts of it seem to totally contradict one another

Cast your minds back to the days of desperately studying the Highway Code, trying to remember all the signs, rules, and road markings - because this sign has left people stumped.

There are so many things to remember when you're learning to drive, and it's not just about when to brake, or how to manoeuvre your car properly. There are a myriad of signs and symbols that you need to learn as well because if not, you're going to be seriously confused when you sit your theory test.

But when people saw one road sign, they were left wondering what on earth it meant, because it seemed to contradict itself in more ways than one.

The sign was a 'Clearway' sign, showing that you couldn't park there from between 6am and 7pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 6pm Saturday and Sunday, and public holidays. However, underneath, to confuse matters, there was a sign that said people should not park there at all other times, with a red circle, a line through it, with a P in the centre.

Posting a picture of the sign on Facebook, a confused man asked: "Can someone please explain what is going on here? These orange signs popped up in the last few days...Do the new signs overrule the old? Does this mean businesses like my restaurant might actually thrive and survive if parking is permitted after 7pm?"

Many insisted the sign, which was spotted in Sydney, Australia, could be clearer by making it "no parking" at all times so drivers aren't caught out by misreading it, reports Kidspot. "Just needs to be clear, no stopping or parking at all", someone penned, with another agreeing it should be a "clearway 24/7".

According to a rep for Transport NSW, the sign is there to control traffic flow and keep people safe. The clearway applies to the days and times stated on the sign and then turns into a no-parking zone after that. If you park there in the times not allowed, a different fine will be applied. The only exception is for buses and taxis picking up or dropping off passengers.
