Advertisement Signs In Vientiane Capital To Be Rearranged

Advertisement signs in Vientiane Capital, which are sure to increase and seem to be disorderly, will soon be rearranged and improved as a single standard as well as a feature of national character.

The plan to rearrange the advertisement signs was made in response to the recent decree of the government on the management of advertisement signs that will be undertaken nationwide.  It will also ensure that state revenue is accurately collected for the use of advertisement signs.

The press conference on the management of advertisement signs was held in Vientiane Capital on November 22, and the decision was revealed by Head of the Vientiane Information, Culture and Tourism Department Mr Khampadid Khemmanith.

Only 215 signs in Vientiane Capital have received permission from the Vientiane Information, Culture and Tourism Department.

In addition, the Information, Culture and Tourism Departments of each district have individually allowed the issuing of advertisement signs for businesses in Sisattanak having 156 signs, Chanthaboury having 263 signs, Xaysettha having 55 signs, Xaythany having 50 signs, Hadxayfong having 46 signs, Sikhottabong having 62 and Naxaythong having 98 signs, which excepted other uninspected sign content.

So as to avoid individual permission being granted by individual districts, and to make the process more transparent, the Vientiane Capital Information, Culture and Tourism Department has announced that it has created an Ad Hoc Committee to be in-charge of the management, inspection and permitting process for advertisement signage.

Mr Khampadid revealed that the Vientiane Capital Information, Culture and Tourism Department would continue to inspect and record the number of advertisement signs in the capital and conduct a campaign to disseminate a decree on advertisement signage to the general public, especially local businesspeople and the makers of advertising signage.
