A 54-Year Old Man fined Over Smuggling Diesel

 November 23rd, 2016  |  09:29 AM  |   1236 views

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Malaysian man was ordered by the Magistrate's Court yesterday to pay a fine of $10,000 after he pleaded guilty to a charge of an attempt to smuggle diesel out of the country.

Ling Chuan Siew settled the fine yesterday.

Magistrate Azrimah Abdul Rahman heard from the Customs prosecutor that the defendant was stopped at the Kuala Lurah Control Post at 4.10pm on November 8, 2016.

Customs examiners inquired the defendant whether he had anything to declare on export but said he carried nothing but cooking oil.

A further inspection on the defendant's car revealed that he had carried 97 litres of diesel fuel inside cooking oil bottles kept in and around the car which looked suspicious to the Customs.

It was during investigations back at the Customs office later that day when the officers confirmed that it was indeed diesel fuel kept in the bottles.
