Land contamination can lead to potential human health issues, polluted water resources, damage to buildings and potentially millions of dollars' worth of remediation. The Permanent Secretary for Planning, Land Use and Environment at the Ministry of Development stressed the matter at the Opening Ceremony of the Technical Forum on Managing Contaminated Land. The Forum was held at Dewan Indera Pahlawan, ABCi.
Dayang Doctor Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak also said that in the country, with the enactment of the Environmental Protection and Management Act, Chapter 240, environmental pollution, including land contamination, could be prevented or at least minimised with industries and new developments incorporating environmental consideration into their planning and taking mitigative and preventive measures against pollution, such as conducting Environmental Impact Assessment and devising Environmental Management and Monitoring Plans. 5 presentations were delivered during the forum which was attended by One Hundred participants. The Forum was conducted by JASTRe in conjunction with the World Environment Day 2024 celebration.
