Eu Yan Sang has voluntarily recalled the Infant Brown Rice Si Shen Powder (婴儿糙米四神粉) after feedback that a piece of “wire mesh” was found in a tin of the product.

The company said in a statement that it received an email last Saturday (Nov 19) from a customer "alleging that she found a metal plate in a tin of Eu Yan Sang Infant Brown Rice Si Shen Powder product (Batch Number: 2251)".

The company’s customer service officer contacted the customer on the following Monday to seek more information, and offered a refund or exchange. The officer also wanted to retrieve the affected tin for further investigation, added the statement.

The customer, Ms Yan Shi Ying, however, shared a post on social media on Tuesday evening before “allowing us to conduct further investigation”, said Eu Yan Sang.

On Wednesday, the company started removing the affected product from stores here for investigation. The recall was further announced in a statement by the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) on Saturday.

The affected product was only distributed in Singapore.

The AVA is currently working with Eu Yan Sang to investigate the matter and investigations are ongoing.

“We would like to assure our customers that this is an isolated incident which we take very seriously and are investigating as part of our due diligence. We seek our customers’ understanding that the lab test results will only be available in a week,” added the company.
