Foodies rejoice as there is a new mobile app in town that serves to cater to your eating-out needs.

There may already be more than a handful of similar apps, but this newly-launched app is developed by East Malaysians to encompass eateries specifically in Sabah and Sarawak.

Developed by Dexus AP Marketing, WeEat is an app that helps users — or in this case, food hunters, to locate restaurants, coffee shops, cafes and the likes, across East Malaysia.

“The difference between our app and other food hunt is that it provides information to users on where to find the food they are looking for, with exact location accuracy,” said its managing director, SL Ling.

The app is linked to other popular user apps such as giant location finder Google Maps, and app-based ride-hailing services, Uber and Grab.

WeEat has three main features, including providing accurate information on an outlet’s location, such as the distance, the time it takes to get there, as well as traffic status info.

It also links users to the outlet’s Facebook pages for further information and reviews.

The app also lets users know of nearby suggested places, and informs users on the latest featured products and promotions, which will come in handy for celebrations including festive seasons, anniversaries and birthdays.

Other than the fact that users can install this app on their devices for free, WeEat also lets food beverages outlet operators advertise and have their outlets featured in the app, at a rate of only RM19.90 a month.

“Through our observations, we found that one of the challenges faced by food operators is how they cannot afford to market their products and outlets as advertisement rates can be costly.

“So we developed this app, not only to help food lovers but also to aid food operators in East Malaysia where there are variety of specialty foods to offer, to promote their outlets and products at a much more affordable price,” said Ling.

According to Ling, they are expecting the number of outlets featured in the app to reach as many as 1,000 by the end of this year.

“We have a lot of food specials here in East Malaysia, which I myself enjoy, but sharing platforms to promote them can be very limited.

“So this app is something that I’m sure will be a hit among foodies as well as food outlet operators,” said Ling.

WeEat is launched today and officially available on Android’s Playstore and Apple’s AppStore.
