BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The Women's Business Council (WBC) held a sharing session headlined 'Zero to Hero' at the Information Department yesterday, with Datin Paduka Hajah Rokiah binti Haji Zakiah, the President of WBC, present as the guest of honour.

The session featured guest speakers Sharifah Hajah Siti Khadijah binti Sheikh Haji Ibrahim, Hajah Kamariah binti Hasbullah, Hajah Jainah binti Haji Lahap and Shamsiah binti Haji Hidup, who shared their success stories with the audience, and encouraged other women to build better lives for themselves within the community.

The Vice-President of WBC, Hajah Mordiah binti Haji Jack, said in her speech that the event was a response to the call made by His Majesty Sultan Haii Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, for youths to venture into entrepreneurship to raise their standard of living and contribute towards the country's economic growth.

Hajah Mordiah also said that the WBC will provide assistance and guidance for locals in starting their own business, and she encouraged more women to register for WBC membership.

Around 130 representatives from several government agencies and non-government organisations (NGOs) took part in the sharing session.

WBC was established on June 20, 2000 and has since declared the date as Women's Business Day, with a focus on empowering women as mothers and major contributors to the country's economy.
