The Department of Immigration and National Registration through the Law Enforcement Division, Bandar Seri Begawan carried out the Operasi Kabat targeting several houses and rental rooms in Mukim Kilanas.

 

Six foreigners were detained for further investigation under the suspicion of overstaying in the country after their immigration passes had expired.

 

Meanwhile, the prosecution case was conducted under the Immigration Act, Chapter 17. 37 year-old Apo Barman, a Bangladeshi, was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment and 3 strokes of whippings for entering the country without going through authorised control post; staying in the country without  valid immigration pass; exiting the country without going through authorised control post and overstaying in the country.

 

Meanwhile, an Indonesian man, 57-year old Suryani was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment and fined $800 in lieu of whipping for overstaying in the country after his immigration pass had expired. He failed to pay the fine and was sentenced to 13 months imprisonment.
