BERAKAS, BRUNEI-MUARA

DPMM FC head coach Steve Kean has credited the quartet of Rafael Ramazotti, Paulo Sergio, Azwan Ali and Maududi Hilmi Kasmi as the most potent attacking force in the S-League.

The comprehension and chemistry which has been established mainly among the deadly quartet boiled down to experience of playing with each other for a number of seasons, which Kean called an advantage than most teams in the league this term.

The attacking players enjoy a fine understanding with the build-ups leading to most of the goals directly linked with the movement of one, if not all, of the club's primary source of threat.

With their rivals in Singapore's top flight looking almost unrecognisable from the previous season bar Home United FC due to major reinforcements, Kean has revealed that retaining most of his charges since he began his managerial career with the club is an 'added advantage'.

The understanding and awareness that the players anticipate not only limited to the quartet has been portrayed as crucial elements to help guide the team forward.

"I don't think there will be a more potent front four in the whole league," the head coach asserted.

Yesterday, players and management of DPMM FC visited the Rimba Secondary School which served as inspiration to young students with dreams of making to the top as a professional football player.

"We've started this programme last year where we visited many schools and tried to give some advice to the students," said Kean in an interview on the side-lines of the gathering at the Rimba Secondary School.

For some of the local players, visits to secondary schools or similar institutions represent a walk down memory lane having been a part of the school's history.

Therefore, the newer generation may look up to the school's adopted sons as an ideal role-model having taken a similar route in the aspect of their academic environment.

The players' list of successes has helped put various schools of which they were previously enrolled in their studying years long before their association with the club in a shining light.

And a return to a place where they may or may not have represented the school team will not only relive tales of their nostalgic past but incredible stories which contributed to their rise as professional players.

"From the players' point of view, a lot of the players who have been involved in this school and other schools try to let the students know if they are interested in football and what type of commitment it's needed to be a professional football player if they want to play at the highest level," Kean continued.

Meeting up and close with their heroes under one roof also allowed the students an insight of the type of sacrifices they have to make in order to reach the top level.

The S-League holders made a statement of intent after starting out the Under-19 team last year.

Since then, three of the Under-19 players have been promoted to the first-team with the opportunity of even clocking minutes at a professional level.

The step-up of the trio Md Na'im Tarif, Azim Izamuddin Suhaimi and Abdul Hafiz Abdul Rahim to the first-team has given hope and promise that budding players can be given a chance to play at the highest level.
