In performing the fast, there are some Muslims who may lack proper knowledge regarding the rules and obligations of fasting. This was among the matters underlined during the Friday Sermon titled Perform the Fast Perfectly. The Sermon also stressed that a fasting person is required to leave all that is vile and useless, which may ruin the fast.

The Imam or Prayer Leader said that avoiding these negative actions might be challenging for some, so when we slip, we should immediately seek forgiveness from Allah SWT. Apart from leaving all that is vile which may ruin our fast, we are encouraged to perform as many sunat or supererogatory practices as possible. Muslims can enliven the nights of Ramadhan with supererogatory deeds such as by performing the tarawih prayer, reading the Al-Qur'an and engaging in tahajud prayer. However, the sermon reminded that while increasing worship is commendable, Muslims should also fulfil their daily responsibilities, including work and duties towards their families and society.
