 December 11th, 2016  |  10:33 AM  |   2676 views

KUALA SELANGOR

Police have crippled a robbery syndicate with the arrest of two men following a police pursuit which ended in the suspects getting involved in an accident.

Kuala Selangor OCPD Supt Ruslan Abdullah said the incident occurred around 8.30pm on Friday.

“A team from the Kuala Selangor CID was conducting patrols when they came across two suspicious looking men on a motorcycle along Jalan TIAJ2/1, Alam Jaya.

“They tried to stop the motorcycle but it sped off and one of the suspects pulled out a parang.

“A pursuit ensued but did not last long as the suspects hit a car just as they were escaping,” he said when contacted Saturday.

He said both suspects were hurt in the crash and were taken to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for medical treatment.

Supt Ruslan said earlier, on the same day between 5pm and 8pm, the duo were allegedly involved in a robbery of a hardware shop and two sundry shops.

Losses amounted to about RM17,498.

“We managed to seize a parang, several mobile phones and an assortment of prepaid top up cards from the two suspects aged 17 and 22.

“The two suspects are believed to be involved in a ring of at least eight armed robbers who go around on motorcycles,” he said, adding that the group was believed to be also involved in a robbery of a sundry shop owned by a Bangladeshi man on Dec 4.

He said the remaining members of the group have been identified by police and are being tracked down.

“We have linked this group to at least four armed robberies this month.

“The group is believed to be active in Sungai Pelong, Batu Arang, Bestari Jaya and Kuala Selangor,” he said, adding that both suspects caught have been remanded for a week to help with investigations.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the police hotline at 03-2052 9999 or visit the nearest police station.
