A head-on collision involving a saloon car and a single-cab pick-up truck at Jalan Lambir on Tuesday claimed the lives of one passenger from each of the vehicles.
Teo Kwang Peng, 57, was travelling in the car driven by his 24-year-old daughter coming from the city towards
Bakong, while Albester Anyie Ugang, 17, was in the truck driven by a relative, when the accident occurred around 7pm.
Teo was severely injured and died at the scene, while Albester died while receiving treatment at Miri Hospital.
A member of the public at the scene said he heard a loud bang and rushed to the main road to see what was happening.
“It was very loud and immediately we knew that there was an accident. We rushed here and saw the two cars where the single cab was upside down.
“Some of the passers-by pulled over and we all tried to help the victims out of the vehicle,” said the man.
He said an ambulance, a team of firefighters and police were called to the scene.
Teo’s daughter, who broke both her arms and also injured her right leg, and the driver of the pick-up, who was also injured, were both brought to Miri Hospital for treatment.
The police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
